At The Armoury, we’re not talking buffed vanity fitness, we’re about authentic physical fitness and mental alertness… ‘stand by, go!’


Our core ethos is based on functional training – stuff that is useful in everyday life: stuff that could save your life – done well, no messing. Steve Burke, the owner, was an officer in the elite Parachute Regiment and managed the British Army boxing team. The two went together hand in glove, Para and boxing training made for awesome soldiers with the self-confidence and can-do attitude that springs from supreme physical fitness. That feeling of infectious enthusiasm is the inspiration behind The Armoury. It’s aspirational, perhaps, and we recognise that not everyone could or would want to be super-fit rooper-troopers but it all begins with small steps, positive reinforcement and increased motivation to continue so that physical activity becomes a pleasure and not a chore. It’s a journey, and we don’t know where it will take us, but we do know that becoming more active helps us to feel more positive about life – and that can only be good.

While keeping abreast of the latest sports science developments, we stay true to the fundamentals of functional and cardio exercise that have proven to be effective through the ages, with a particular focus on basic movement patterns (push, pull, squat, hinge, and gait) – because you’ll find the best fitness technology inside your own body. The absence of flashy mechanical kit and faddish methods doesn’t mean boring however, far from it, and our trainers aren’t egotistic meatheads who think you should have buffed bodies like theirs. We don’t judge you for your body; we build positive attitudes and will motivate and coach you through the process of making you feel even better about yourself. Ladies That Punch  is designed especially for the girls to torch the fat, shape up and feel good. This spirited and fun programme runs for three-months to achieve maximum benefits and comprises two classes a week, alternating boxing methods (no contact) and functional fitness training. This popular course will leave you with a feeling of empowerment and confidence. This course is always over-subscribed so best get your name down early.
